July Favourites

Style... It can only be the navy linen shirt which I can not stop wearing (see this blog post) . I'm currently on a mission to find it in white...

Beauty... This is more of a tool than a product, but I recently heard that using Gua Sha stones for facial massage can help with Bruxism (clenching or griding your jaw while asleep which causes pain and limits jaw mobility). I have only just bought this set which is a rose quartz gua sha stone along with a double ended roller - so I can't comment on if it's helped with that yet, but even if it doesn't, it feels SO good on my skin. I got mine form TK Maxx, but i've found an equivalent (with free shipping) on Amazon

Blogs... While on holiday in Cornwall at the beginning of this month, I discovered the YouTube channels, and subsequently the Instagrams and blogs of Anna Newton of The Anna Edit and Lizzie Hadfield of Shot From The Street. I've loved discovering bloggers who have a different approach to fashion - where the emphasis is on personal style, re-wearing items, minimizing your wardrobe etc, rather than hauling tonnes of cheap trend led pieces.

Books... I've barely been reading this month, which is unusual for me, but when I have been picking up a book - it's been Not Working by Lisa Owens. It's funny, tragically relateable and written almost in the style of a diary with lots of sub headings and short and amusing observations, making it easy to dip in and out of!

Film & TV... I know it's taken me a looong time to jump on this bandwagon, but Stranger Things is the only thing that's managed to keep me from watching hours of old Time Team episodes on YouTube. I love the autumnal, 80's suburban American aesthetic along with the acting, soundtrack, score an basically everything else. I get the hype now.
Film-wise, I finally got round to watching Notting Hill and I can't believe it took me so long. It ticks all the 90's rom-com boxes and it's left me wanting to take a trip to London ASAP to explore Notting Hill.

Miscellaneous... I'm a sucker for candles, scent sachets and room sprays, i'm also a sucker for anything lavender fragranced, so this Sweet Harmony Cleansing Room Spray was something I had to get! They're made by my Mum's cousin who sells them along with candles, artwork by my great Aunt, and other lovely things at a local market. There are two other fragrances but I went for the lavender, camomile and rose quartz (tiny pieces of which are actually inside the bottle!).

For next month... In August, i'm aiming to only buy second hand clothes and accessories. I do this a lot of the time anyway but this month i've slipped and indulged in a few high street purchases so i'm going to have a bit of a ban in place!
I want to read at least two books, which isn't too much to ask but we'll see! on my list are: One Day by David Nicholls (i'm sure I read this years ago but don't remember it!), A Modern Family by Helga Flatland and non-fiction wise, I'd love to get my hands on An Edited Life by Anna Newton so that I can become an organisation Godess!

Summer Uniform

This is the kind of outfit where if i'm not wearing it, I wish I was wearing it. Now that the weather is back to the usual British summer standard, the jeans are back. This high-waisted straight leg pair are from Primark - I'm not proud of this purchase as I avoid buying from the high street, but they fit me so well and I know for a fact I'll get so much wear out of them (slap on the wrist though, for not waiting and finding them on Depop). I've paired them with this deep blue linen shirt which is probably the best thing I've bought this summer. I found it in a charity shop for three humble pounds - and it still had the original tags on so had never been worn! (I can't find this exact one, but there's a very similar one here). My most worn summer shoes which go with everything are these Birkenstocks which are hand-me-downs from my mum's friend! I know Birks divide people, like marmite, but for the wide-footed they're pretty much essential, so there.

Local Adventures - Minster Lovell

Adventuring to nearby towns and villages is one of our favorite things to do as a family, and we're very lucky to live in the Cotswolds, where there are so many beautiful historic places and countryside walks right on our doorstep.
We've visited Minster Lovell in Oxfordshire a few times now and we aren't yet bored of the pretty Cotswold stone cottages, exploring the 15th century ruins of Mister Lovell Hall (unashamed Time Team fan here) and having a picnic and a paddle in the river that runs right next to it. The ruins and river are free to visit and are dog, child, picnic, barbecue, swim - friendly, so definitely worth a wander round if you're ever nearby!
We managed to keep the hoards of visitors out of frame in most of the photos below, however on a hot day during the summer holidays, expect it to be busy and full of kids climbing and swimming! I don't mind too much, but one for my list of things to do this year is to visit again in autumn or winter when i'm sure the atmosphere will have a very different feel, and the ruins and the white doves that roost on them will look even more beautiful.

The Perfect Dress for a Heatwave

Early this morning we set out for a bit of fresh air before the temperature became too unbearable, and found ourselves taking a long walk on what must have been the hottest morning of the year so far. Luckily, I was wearing the perfect dress for a heatwave, the loose shape and puffy sleeves allow for plenty of air flow, while the higher neckline protects my pale skin from the sun, win win (I also feel like an angel from a school nativity play in it, which isn't a bad thing). I hope you're enjoying the weather and staying cool whatever you're up to!
